The Friends of the Sun Prairie Public Library is focused on providing financial support, advocacy in the community, and volunteer support for library events. We also run the Read Before Book Store that generates a large portion of our funding. We fund library programs like the singer-songwriter series, the summer reading program, book-club materials, memory kits, etc. We also purchase art that decorates the library (e.g. we commissioned and funded the sculpture located in the prairie just to the southeast of the library (now in storage due to construction)).
The Board holds 10 to 12 meetings each year (at 6:30 of the second Monday of the month). The normal term of office is 3 years, starting at the November annual meeting of the full Friends membership. However, we do occasionally have seats open due to a member unexpectedly leaving and these seats can be filled by interim appointment.
To join the Board, you must be a current member of the Friends. The evaluation process for applicants includes an interview with our Nominating Committee, which will then forward a recommendation to the full Board for a vote.
Our Board members serve in many ways. To help us get to know the people who apply to join the board and to find the best roles/activities for you, we have a brief questionnaire:
Our Nominating Committee will be in touch with you soon about next steps.
